Laconia-Ernest Joseph Carignan, 95, of 83 Highland Street died Wednesday evening, February 15, 2006 at St. Francis Health Care Center in Laconia after a brief illness.
Ernest was the son of the late Arthur and Cordelia (Grenier) Carignan. He was born in Laconia on March 17, 1910 and had been a life long resident.
Prior to his retirement Ernest was a Trackman for B&M Railroad, and then for Gilbert Construction as a Heavy Equipment Operator for over 40 years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the American Legion Post 1 in Laconia. Ernest faithfully served our country during WWII in the United States Navy.
One brother, Herve Carignan, and three sisters, Rose Cullens, Alice Greenwood, and Dora Sulloway predeceased Ernest.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie R. (Prince) Carignan of Laconia, one daughter, Marlene Chamberlain and her husband Stephen of Laconia, one brother, Roger Carignan of Lakeport, three grandsons, Douglas, Michael, and Kevin Chamberlain. 2 great grandchildren also survive him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, February 20, 2006 at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue Laconia at 11:30 a.m.; Rev. Adrien R. Longchamps pastor of the church celebrated the Mass. Burial with Military Homors took place April 17, 2006 in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. There were no visiting hours.
