TEWKSBURY - Carole Ann Bencale (Powers), mother of five and resident of the community,
died peacefully Thursday morning, April 30, while in the care of her family (from non-COVID-19
conditions).
She was raised in Everett, one of three daughters of the late Joseph and Helen (McMahon)
Bencale. She lived in Tewksbury for the greater part of her life. She was a communicant of St.
William's Church.
After moving to Tewksbury, and in addition to her duties as a Mom, she was always the extra
mom in the family and the neighborhood. She welcomed and cared for nieces, nephews and
friends for extended periods of time. Her home was filled with extra friends and family from the
moment the pool opened until the end of the summer season. Every Christmas Eve was special
and an unintentional open house, where everyone was welcomed.
Her wonderful laugh was big and contagious; It could lift your spirits instantly.
When she returned to working outside of her home she managed the kitchen at Casa Grande
Nursing Home, now known as the Blaire House. She also worked as a shift supervisor at
Friendly's Restaurant in Tewksbury. Lastly, after many years working at the Deli Department for
Market Basket, she retired.
She is survived by her five children, Kim Cavazzi and her husband Peter of Dracut, Helen
Powers and her husband Joseph Horne of Chelmsford, Patrick M. Powers of Tewksbury, Carole
Mills and her husband Bruce of Plaistow, NH, and Kathleen Powers of Dracut; her ten
grandchildren, Brian Cavazzi of Dracut, Courtney Bradarich and her husband John of San
Pedro, CA, Amanda Bonnell of Leominster, Kenneth Bonnell of Chelmsford, Jennifer Powers
and her fiancé Alex Gardner of Hudson, NH, Patrick T. Powers of Tewksbury, Kevin Mills of
Plaistow, NH, Brian Mills of Wakefield, Eric Mills of Plaistow, NH, Joseph Cruz and his wife
Lauren of Westford; and her two-year-old great-grandson, Leo Bradarich of San Pedro, CA;
along with many nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by her two sisters, Josephine
Middleton and Patricia Woodford.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, funeral services are private. A Memorial Mass and" Celebration of
Life" will be announced when the crisis has passed. The Tewksbury Funeral Home is honored
