DUDLEY – Ruth S. (Moon) Spahl, 80, of 59 Mason Road, died Tuesday, Feb.14, in the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Regional Hospital after an illness. Her husband of 32 years, Robert L. Spahl, died in January, 1982.
She leaves four sons and daughters-in-law, David L. and Jacqueline Spahl of Naples, FL, Donald R. and Nancy Spahl of Upton, Jay R. and Lynn Spahl, and Michael J. and Vicki L. Spahl, all of Dudley; a brother, Robert I. Moon of Whitinsville; 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Kathryn Johnson.
She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Herbert and Lela (Beesmer) Moon. She graduated from Worcester South High School in 1943 and from Hahnemann School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1946. She moved to Dudley in 1956.
Mrs. Spahl worked as a private and public duty registered nurse for many years. She was also the secretary of R.L. Spahl Plumbing & Heating, Inc., from 1959 until retiring in 1990.
She spent many summers in Wellfleet on Cape Cod. She was skilled in knitting, was an avid reader, and enjoyed card playing and bowling with her many friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, 70 South Main St., Oxford. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours are from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, Feb. 17, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street,Webster.The family requests that donations in her name be made to either the Robert L.
