REV. JOSEPH C. SULLIVAN


REV. JOSEPH C. SULLIVAN age 78 of Denver, CO, formerly of Dorchester, died Friday, Feb 10, 2006 at his home in Denver following a brief illness. Born and educated in Boston, the son of the late Gilbert & Ellen (Flaherty) Sullivan, Fr. Sullivan was ordained in 1953 by Archbishop Richard Cushing at The Cathedral of The Holy Cross in Boston. Fr. Sullivan served in several parishes in the Archdiocese between 1953 and 1977 including St. Mary's in Waltham, Sacred Heart in Malden, St. Lawrence in Brookline and St. Patrick's in Roxbury. In 1977, Fr. Sullivan volunteered to move to Denver, Colorado to assist in relieving a critical shortage of priests in the Denver Archdiocese. He was incardinated as a priest of the Archdiocese of Denver on January 31, 1977. During summer visits to Boston, Fr. Sullivan would assist at his home parish of St. Mark's in Dorchester.
Fr. Sullivan is survived by his sister; Mary Sullivan of Dorchester, 2 brothers; James Sullivan of Braintree, and John Sullivan of Quincy as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Thomas, Gilbert and Edward Sullivan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb 18th in St. Mark's Church,1725 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester at 10:00 A.M. Fr. Sullivan will lie in state in St. Mark's Church on Friday 4 - 8 P.M. Donations in Fr. Sullivan's memory may be made to St. Mark's Church. Interment, New Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences and guest book are available,
