Obituary

Irwin Franklin, 76, of Peabody, MA entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 27th, 2020. Loving Son of the late Charles and Celia Franklin of Chelsea, MA. Devoted Father to Daughter, Heather Hardenstine, and her husband Scott of Danvers, MA. Cherished Grandfather to Rebecca and Zachary Hardenstine. Dear Brother of Harriet Franklin of Waltham, MA, Alvin Franklin and his wife Sharon of Brentwood, NH, and Sister-in-law Norma Epstein and her husband Warren of Peabody, MA. Uncle to Nephews, Eric Franklin and Steven Franklin, and Nieces, Rachael Johnson and the late Jennifer Klein and their families.

As a young man, Irwin worked at United Shoe in Beverly, MA and was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. Later, he became a long time employee of the City of Peabody where he held many positions, ending his career in the Water Department. Irwin was an avid reader and conversant about many subjects. He was also known to his family as “MacGyver” because he could problem solve and come up with the most creative and ingenious solutions. Irwin’s other passions included watching cooking shows, taking spinning classes, and talking about his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Due to the extreme circumstances surrounding Covid-19, a Private Graveside Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 30th. Donations in Irwin’s memory can be made to the Greater Boston Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
