Obituary

Lynn: Clovis J. A. Soares age 75 of Lynn died Friday at the NSMC / Union Hospital in Lynn following a brief illness. He was the husband of Lydia (Shand) Soares, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies, he was the son of the late James V. and Anneta (Allen) Soares. A resident of Lynn for 36 years, he was employed as a machinist for General Electric in Lynn. He retired from G.E. in 1994 .
Mr. Soares had a passion for the game of cricket and was equally passionate about politics. He loved his family and his beautiful island of Jamaica and enjoyed telling his grandchildren ‘tall tales of Jamaica’. He was a Seventh Day Adventist.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters: Althea Soares, Desreen Johnson, Patricia Soares all of Lynn & Marcia Soares-Benalfew of Peabody, 4 sons: Glendon, Devon & Dossain Soares all of Lynn, Jack Soares of Salem, 2 brothers: Mordecai & Clement Soares both of Jamaica, a sister: Clementina Shaw of Jamaica, also survived by 27 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday at 9 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Salem [Rt 114 / 1-A] followed by his funeral service at the Washington St. Baptist Church, 256 Washington St., Lynn at 11 am. Visiting hours: Thursday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
