Obituary

Ruth McBirney Crow, a resident of Lawrence, formerly of Andover, passed away suddenly at her home on Friday morning, April 17, 2020. She was the beloved wife of John W. Crow and loving mother of Timothy J. Crow. She was 68 years old.

Ruthie was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on January 8, 1952, the beloved daughter of the late William and Ruth (Powers) McBirney. She was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree. She received her bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College, class of 1973, and followed that with a long and successful career as a payroll manager. A very selfless person, she was always willing to help anyone in need and volunteered countless hours as a member of the Merrimack Valley Trauma Intervention Program (TIP).
Ruth was a kind and gentle animal lover once taking in abandoned rabbits and raising them as her pets. She treasured her dog Mac, named with a nod to her cherished Irish ancestry, and he brought her many years of love and support. An enthusiastic gardener, she enjoyed planting flowers, trees and shrubs.

She will be dearly missed by her close friends and neighbors Denise Berthiaume, Pat Lynch and Jim DiBenedetto. Ruthie truly loved getting together with her brothers, sisters and their spouses at the Cape where her favorite cosmopolitan cocktail was followed by the legendary fried onion rings and fish and chips dinner at the Flying Bridge in Falmouth.

In addition to her beloved husband, John, she is survived by her loving son, Timothy J. Crow of Andover. She will be greatly missed by her cherished siblings: William McBirney of Florida, Judith and her husband John Condon of Hanover, John McBirney and his partner Mary Ellen Olson of Hull, Ellen and her husband Francis McNeice of Falmouth. She dearly loved her many nieces and nephews including Lisa, Bill, Jack, Cara, Sean, Jen, Tricia, Paul and the late Kathryn McBirney.

A private family Graveside Service will be held in the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Andover.
