John E. Paulk, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, April 17, 2020, at his residence.
Private graveside services will be held.
Mr. Paulk was born May 20, 1945, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Oren Eugene & Dorothy Mae Pridgen Paulk. He served his country honorably in the Army National Guard for 28 years. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1971 following OCS and promoted to the rank of Major in 1988. He was awarded a Top Gun Award for outstanding marksmanship. Mr. Paulk worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years, beginning as a rural carrier and retiring as a clerk. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, a member of the American Postal Workers Union and an Honorary Member of Georgia Military Institute. He loved playing cards and fishing and was affectionately known by the grandkids as “Fishing Papa”. Mr. Paulk was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Jay Paulk of Fitzgerald; two daughters: Lyn Brady & Allen of Atlanta and Suzanne New & Randy of Valdosta; seven grandchildren: Pressley Paulk, Ty Paulk, Marley Kayt Paulk, Chandler James, Conner James, Landon New, and Brooklyn New; and a longtime special friend of 20 years, Gail Donnelly of Fitzgerald.
