Obituary

On Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, Peter A. McMahon; formerly of Winter Park Florida and Marblehead Massachusetts, died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Brockton Massachusetts.

Peter was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, the 7th of 10 children of the late Frederick and Rita (Cruise) McMahon. He was a graduate of the Brockton High School class of 1959.

In 1960 Peter began a career at Sears Roebuck that would span more than 3 decades. To those who knew him, he was larger than life, always optimistic and energetic and a pool shark when he needed to be. To his credit he never had an email address nor did he ever own or operate a computer and chuckled at those of us who rely on GPS for our direction. He had a knack for making business fun and could sniff out the best bars anywhere in the world.

He enjoyed travelling and spent time in Poland and Russia working with Citizens Democracy where he made many friends. He adored his grandchildren, Molly McMahon of Stockholm, Sweden and Oliver and Elias McMahon of Middletown, Rhode Island and took them on many adventures, and supported their many whims, as only a grandpa can. He enjoyed building restaurants and bars although he rarely spent time in them. He enjoyed the company of his crew in Nahant, Lynn and Revere (they know who they are) and otherwise making his rounds on the North Shore meeting friends.

Peter is survived by his former wives, Sheila Bowman Graff of Orlando, Florida and Joanne Christopher McMahon of Winter Park, Florida, two Sons, Timothy B. McMahon of Orlando, Florida and Kevin P. McMahon and his wife Mariya Thunman of Middletown, Rhode Island. His sisters, Mary Baker of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Rita and her husband Alton Lyman of Brockton, Massachusetts and Patricia McMahon-Currie and her fiancé Ronald Poliseno of Brockton, Massachusetts, his sisters-in-law, Gloria McMahon of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Judy McMahon of Brockton, Massachusetts and Catherine McMahon of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts as well as many nieces, and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his brothers John, Paul, James, Frederick and Joseph and his sister Ann O’Brien.

Peter will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Brockton Massachusetts with his brothers, James and Joseph. A celebration of his life will be held in the near future, at a time and place to be determined; in the meantime, raise a glass in his honor, be safe, and be well.
