Obituary

Gina Ann (Pecia) Groom, age 78, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2020 from the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. She was born on June 22, 1941 in Kombornia, Poland. Gina immigrated to the United States when she was a child. She moved to Holyoke, MA, and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1960. After high school, she worked at Sears Roebuck and Company in Holyoke as an auditor. This is where she met the love of her life, George Groom, Jr. He proposed to her on April 2, 1961. In lieu of an engagement ring, he gave her a ceramic skunk that she still has to this day. They married on June 24. The love they had for each other was unconditional, they were the epitome of a true love story. They resided in Holyoke, MA for 8 years then moved to Agawam, MA in July of 1969 and have lived there ever since. She adored taking family trips to Mountain Park, her home away from home. She also enjoyed taking walks and bike rides around the circle where she lived. In her spare time, Gina loved to knit. You could always count on receiving a handmade knitted blanket from her for any occasion. She was so giving, and it made her happy to see you happy. Gina was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She eventually left her job and devoted her time to her family. She absolutely adored her children and grandchildren. Gina will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 58 years, George H. Groom of Agawam; her beloved children, son George Groom and his wife Linda of Agawam, daughter Linda Shea and her husband Chris of Agawam, son William Groom and his wife Carol of Westfield. Her brother Benny Pecia and his wife Jane of Hoyloke; She has five beautiful grandchildren who will miss her dearly, Ciara Beltran and Eugene of San Diego, CA, Brandon Groom and Jess of Ludlow, Lauren, Jake and Nick Shea of Agawam along with 2 great grandchildren on the way. She also has many nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly as well. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Pecia, her sister Helen and her husband Mike Slawski and her brother Teddy Pecia and his wife Helen. The family would like to thank the staff at JGS for the care they had shown to her during her stay. All services are private. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
