Obituary

Anne Catherine (Steffens) Linnehan January 28, 1924 - April 6, 2020.

Anne Linnehan died peacefully in her sleep at home from natural causes. Anne was predeceased by her husband Francis X. Linnehan, a sister, Sister Mary Elizabeth (Joan) Steffens, and brothers Richard and Paul Steffens. She is survived by her daughter Joan Maione and her son-in-law Michael Maione of Wenham, MA, son, Kevin Linnehan of Orleans, MA, daughter Annemarie Linnehan and husband Pierre Fordy of Norwich, Vt, and daughter Susan Frattini and husband Peter of Antrim, NH. She is also survived by six beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with her extended family of nieces, nephews, and the children of her dear cousin Florence.

Anne was born in Malden MA, the eldest child of Albert J. and Anna L, (O’Brien) Steffens.
She grew up in Newton Centre and attended the Sacred Heart School of Newton for 12 years, before graduating from Regis College in 1945. She worked at the First National Bank of Boston until 1949, when she married Frank, of West Roxbury. Anne and Frank raised their four children, first in Roslindale, and then for many years in South Hamilton, MA. They were active members of St. Paul’s Parish, the Tarsus Club and Salem Country Club.

After her children were grown, Anne worked for many years at the Jenny Mears Shop in Hamilton, a hub of small town activity. The Mears Shop was a source of great pleasure for Anne, who met up with friends and neighbors while helping them find unique sewing notions and other practical items. She enjoyed spending her earnings buying gifts for friends and family, especially outfits for her new grandchildren.

Anne and Frank left the North Shore and moved to Cape Cod (Brewster, MA) after Frank retired in 1987 and were golfing and tennis-playing “snowbirds,” wintering in Naples, FL, until 2000. One of Anne’s greatest joys was socializing with family members and friends, both as a hostess and a guest. She and Frank were avid bridge players, playing as couples with a close group of friends in Hamilton; until recently, Anne played with a group of women friends in Orleans. During their retirement years, Anne and Frank enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Ireland, England, France and Italy.

Since childhood, Anne was a faithful Roman Catholic. Anne prayed the rosary and had a special devotion to The Blessed Mother of Christ. Anne maintained many friendships from every stage of her life and always made new friends easily. Her magnetic personality and sense of fun will be greatly missed by all.

Anne's family members and friends extend their gratitude to her son Kevin, whose constant presence and care made it possible to grant her deepest wish to remain home for her final years, and to the home health aides who assisted with her care. She passed away during our uncertain times of social distancing so a private family service will be held on a future date, with interment at Hamilton Cemetery.
