David J. Latinik, 95, of Beverly, passed away peacefully at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly on Saturday, March 28, 2020 with family by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Ethel C. (Hare) Latinik with whom he had shared 54 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Vaughn) Latinik. A graduate of Salem High School, he was a World War II Veteran who served with the Navy in the Pacific. On July 4th, 1948, David married Ethel, the love of his life. Mr. Latinik was employed by the City of Salem as janitorial custodian, serving at several of the city’s schools. He retired from the city in 1988 after 38 years of service. Mr. Latinik was a long-time member of the Salem VFW Witch City Post 1524 and for years he and his brothers were active in the Drum and Bugle Corps. marching bands.
David was a loving husband, uncle, godfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed reading, travel and was an avid walker. He and his loving wife Ethel visited much of the United States and many foreign countries together. He was also a faithful member of Grace Church in Salem. He will be greatly missed by many.
David is survived by his sister, Geraldine B. Schutz of Tennessee, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grand nieces and great-grandnephews and his sister-in-law, Liselotte (Falkenstein) Latinik of North Carolina. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Arthur, Harry and Walter Latinik.
Due to the public health crisis, a private graveside service was held on April 2nd. A Memorial Service is being planned at Grace Church in Salem in June or possibly July.
