WOBURN – Mrs. Samira (Khattar) Mecherkany, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2020, surrounded by her family, after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
She was born in the Haddath section of Beirut, Lebanon, a daughter of the late Youssef and Marie (Abu-Khalil) Khattar, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1976 to escape Civil War in her native land. She settled and remained in Woburn. Samira was a devout Catholic laywoman, and an active communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Stoneham.
She leaves behind three children, Bernard Mecherkany and his wife Suzan, Joseph Mecherkany, and Jeanine Busby; three grandchildren, Alex and Gabi Mecherkany, and Ilana Busby; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid-19 emergency, funeral services are private. Burial will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. A “celebration of Life” will be announced when the emergency has passed.
