Raymond Fortes, age 51, of Taunton, formerly of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, April 4, 2020. He was the loving fiancé of Karrie Temple, with whom he made his home.
Born in New Bedford, MA on July 2, 1968, he was a loving son of Ecilda (DePina) Fortes of New Bedford and the late Joseph Fortes.
Raymond grew up and was educated in New Bedford. He had made his home in Taunton for the past three years and was a former lifelong resident of New Bedford, where his family are parishioners of Our lady of the Assumption Church in New Bedford.
Most recently, Raymond had been employed in various capacities at Walmart in Raynham and the majority of his working career was spent as a forklift operator.
If a person’s wealth in life was judged by the way he loved and honored their family, then Raymond was truly the richest man in the world. His family was truly the essence of his life and he was especially proud of being a grampy. His heart simply poured over at family get togethers where he was always the “life of the party”. He had a remarkable sense of humor, a knack for telling stories, enjoyed camping with his children and will be deeply missed by his large and adoring extended family and good friends.
He was the devoted father of Shayla L. Fortes, Selena M. Fortes, Raymond A. Fortes, their mother Sherri Osorio and his precious granddaughter Brooklyn Matos, all of New Bedford. He was the dear brother of Elizabeth Fortes, Marilyn Silveira and her husband Antonio, Joanne Corriea, all of New Bedford and the late Lavan Fortes and Arnold Fortes. He also leaves behind his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and services, as well as burial at Saint John’s Cemetery in New Bedford will be held privately.
