Marie A. Boole (Passaretti) of Newton, MA. March 31, 2020. Born June 13, 1932, in Boston, MA. Beloved wife of the late Leon John Boole. Devoted mother of Leon J. Boole, Jr. and daughter-in-law Colleen Rivela; Debbie Boole Smelko; and Ann Marie Boole McCormick and husband Joe. Loving grandmother of Thomas John “TJ” Smelko; Peter Michael Smelko and wife Amy; Katharine Marie “Katie” Smelko; Joey McCormick; and Alex McCormick. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marie enjoyed spending time with family, especially at the holidays.
Marie grew up in Roxbury, MA. She and Leon raised their family in West Newton, and she was active in the PTA. She was well-connected in the city and worked at the Newton Chamber of Commerce. She received her real estate license in 1978 and became a very successful Realtor, winning several national sales awards selling homes in Newton and surrounding areas.
Marie loved cooking and baking for family and friends. Her specialties were Italian sauce, meatballs, lasagna, rice pilaf, pies, bread, cream cheese brownies, and lemon squares. She could be heard telling dinner guests, “If you go away hungry, it is your own fault.”
Marie was not a big traveler but did love spending time on Cape Cod many years ago in the house Leon helped build.
Marie loved music, especially Frank Sinatra. She would dance on any dance floor, with any partner, as long as they had rhythm. On Saturday nights, you could find her dancing with Leon in the living room to The Lawrence Welk Show.
In 2012, Marie moved to Maryland to be closer to Ann Marie and her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and hearing about their days at school or latest adventures. Most recently, she lived at Byron House in Potomac, MD, where you could still find her dancing in their living room. We are sure she danced her way through heaven’s gate and that her dance card will be full for many years to come.
