Virginia Lee Griffin, 95, of Irwin County, Georgia, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Private family graveside services will be held.
Virginia was born in Lakeland, Georgia on August 12, 1924 to Lacey & Lela Tomberlin Lee. She was the oldest member of Big Creek Baptist Church where in her younger years she helped in Vacation Bible School and the church nursery. She loved her fellow church members.
Virginia was very active in her children’s growing up years. She was a Boy Scout den mother as well as a member of the Band Booster Club. She was her son’s biggest cheerleader during his football and sports playing years. Virginia loved to work in her flowers where she was able to grow beautiful Gerber daisies that she would share with her special friends at Community Bank. She enjoyed shopping and traveling.
She is survived by her daughter, Irene McDaniel (Gaston) of Irwinville; her son, James Griffin (Jean) of Irwinville; a son-in-law, Danny Smith of Warner Robins; her grandchildren: Dr. Angie McDaniel-Singletary (Charlie), Matthew Griffin (Kelly), Josh Griffin (Anna), and Lee Smith (Emily); and great-grandchildren: Ethan Griffin, Evan Griffin, Kendall Smith, and Peri Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Vinson Griffin; a daughter, Wannelle G. Smith; infant grandson, Anthony McDaniel; six brothers; and two sisters.
