Obituary

CHICOPEE – Arlene M. (Richard) Gardner, 86, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Saint Albans, Vermont on January 19, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late William J. and Matilda N. (Dennis) Richard and was one of six children. She was raised and educated in Saint Albans and moved to Chicopee in 1955 where she lived the remainder of her life. She had worked at Toolkraft in Springfield and also was proud to have worked for the Dugre family at the Lucky Strike Restaurant in the Aldenville section of Chicopee. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her wonderful family. During her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, loved playing bingo locally, trying her luck at the casinos and her time at Hampton Beach. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Albert C. “Al” Gardner Sr. who was Called Home on February 17, 2018. They were married on October 8, 1951 at Holy Angels Church in St. Albans, VT and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She leaves her seven loving children, Albert Gardner Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Vero Beach, FL, David Gardner and his wife, Sue, of Windsor, CT, Richard Gardner and his wife, Sandy, of Enfield, CT, Ann Fortin and her husband, Robert, of West Springfield, Linda Szadek and her husband, Mitchell, of Chicopee, Kelly Kazimierczak of Feeding Hills and John Gardner of Chicopee; her 21 cherished grandchildren and 24 cherished great-grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Gardner and Richard families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her cherished granddaughter, Melissa; her dear son-in-law, Roman Kazimierczak; and her dear daughter-in-law, Tracy Gardner. Her funeral will be private. The St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 is assisting her family.
