WEBSTER – Daniel E. Shays, 51, of 2 Blueberry Way, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 9, 2006, in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Linda A. (Grippo) Shays; a son, Christopher Daniel Shays, age 15; his mother, Joyce B. (Lalone) Shays of Hollywood, FL; a brother, Stephen J. Shays of Hollywood, FL; a sister, Deborah Francis of West Boylston; and a large extended family.
He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Everett A. Shays. He graduated from Saint Peter Catholic High School in Worcester in 1972 and earned his degree in business from Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, VA. He lived in Virginia, Worcester and Grafton before moving to Webster in 1987.
He served in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977, stationed in Norfolk, and traveled extensively throughout the world.
Mr. Shays was a supervisor at United Parcel Service in Leominster for 15 years. Previously, he was the manager of Sharp Interiors, his family’s business in Worcester.
He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He enjoyed golfing, and was an avid fisherman.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 14, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley, at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Monday, February 13, in the funeral home.
