Obituary

Walter E. Mattison, Jr. 64, of Franklin died March 24 at his home.

He was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, June 9,1955, the son of Doris (Faucher ) Mattison of Franklin and the late Walter E. Mattison, Sr.

Walter served as a Special Forces Green Beret in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. He had a strong love of country all his life, sharing stories and adventures with fellow service members all over the country through Facebook and personal contact. Besides his family, his love and support for our military was a top priority.

Walt was a stamp collector, a car and plane enthusiast, and a voracious reader. Walt shared his love of guitars with his niece Jessica and he gifted her with acoustic and electric guitars. She will treasure them always.

Walt was a brilliant guy, a member of MENSA, and loved to discuss current events. He was kind, generous, and wickedly sarcastic- a trait that endeared him to so many.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his ex-wife, Madison Nadeau,of Florida, with whom he remained dear friends, his son Raymond Mattison and his partner, Tracey of Florida and Ray’s children, Lexi Marie and Brody Christopher, his daughter, Gwenn Sanfilippo and her husband, Dominic of Chicago and their children, Charlie and Evie.

Walt bragged a lot about his children and grandchildren and loved them all dearly.

He also leaves behind his sister, Gayle Ward , and her husband Bob of Franklin and their children, Rob and Jessica(both of whom he adored), and many cousins and friends.

Walt was loved. He will be missed.

Due to these times, a private burial will be held later at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.

Donations may be made in his memory to your local VFW Post.

Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
