Obituary

Margaret Mary Barishian, age 88, died on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Bayberry Commons in Burrillville, RI. Margaret was born to the late Philip and Rose (Akel) Soucar in Pawtucket, RI. She had lived in Hope for 46 years and had previously lived in Providence. She was the loving wife of George J. Barishian, to whom she was married to for nearly 61 years.

Besides her husband, she is also survived by her children: Donna Barishian of North Providence, Nancy Burke and her husband Harold of Greenville, Gregory Barishian and his wife Maureen of Chepachet, David Barishian of Hope, and her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca and Ryan Barishian. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Soucar of Marshfield, MA, Emil Soucar of Wenonah, NJ and Vincent Soucar of Seekonk, MA.

Margaret was best remembered as being kind, nurturing, and a teacher to her grandchildren. She had a natural green thumb and enjoyed spending her time working in her expansive garden during her retirement years. She was an excellent cook who embraced her Syrian heritage and always made sure there was an abundance of food on the table, often including foods such as stuffed grape leaves from leaves picked in the area. The family making homemade string-cheese was another experience we cherish. She was a talented artist of many different mediums, some of which including quilting, embroidery, and oil painting. Margaret took great joy in passing her skills and traditions down to her children and grandchildren over the years.

A private funeral service was held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the kind staff of Bayberry Commons Nursing Home that made a difference for us all. Donations in her memory may be made to HopeHealth(Hospice) 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 RI.
Hope Health

There is nothing comparable to the human bond between a mother and her child:
when we come into this world, our first abode is within our mother's womb;
she provides us with our first nourishment through her own body;
and when we are born, we experience love for the first time within her warm, reassuring embrace.

She is:
the first to calm our fears,
the first to heal our wounds,
the first to make us smile
and our first teacher.

And thus a bond is formed between her heart and soul, and ours.

And even when her departure from this earthly life deprives us of her physical presence, the bond between her soul and ours is not broken, but only temporarily separated, to be forever reunited in the eternal presence of her Lord and Creator.

And yet, in His inscrutable wisdom, God creates bonds of friendship, often in the most unexpected time and circumstances, to ease our pain and enable us to experience God's ineffable love - that love which is the source of that peace which surpasses all understanding.
