Obituary

John Dias, Jr., 84, of Dartmouth died Wednesday February 8, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elaine G. (Pitts) Dias.

Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late John and Erminda (Sylvia) Dias, he lived in Dartmouth and New Bedford all his life.

Mr. Dias was formerly employed as a manager of Marianne Coin Laundry in Dartmouth for many years until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, the American Area Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the New Bedford High Gridiron Club.

Survivors include a brother, Manuel Dias, of Dartmouth; two sisters, Hilda Hebert of Dartmouth, and Agnes Oleksiak of North Grosvenordale, CT.; and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 13, 2006 at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday February 12, 2006 from 3-7 PM.
