Obituary

Jack Lane Ewing, 81, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Whitley Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. The family will receive friends at The Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla, Sunday, from 1 PM until 2:30 PM, before the graveside service.

Mr. Ewing was born August 27, 1938, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late H.A. “Bud” Ewing and Willene Ewing Wilson. He attended Irwin County schools and graduated from Birdwood Primitive Baptist College, which is now Thomas University in Thomasville, Georgia. Mr. Ewing loved spending time on his farm, gardening, and making birdhouses for his family and friends. He was a collector of old tools and antiques. Mr. Ewing loved Tennessee Walking horses and enjoyed going to the Shelbyville, Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration show when he could. He was an avid listener of Southern Gospel music. Holidays were a favorite for him because it was time spent with his family.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Dixie & Reggie Gibbs of Ocilla, Libby & Tom Johnson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jason & Denise Ewing of Cordele and Lane Ewing of Thomasville; five grandchildren: Keri & Andrew Tucker, Haley & Ashley Spell, all of Ocilla, Tanner Ewing, Logan Ewing and Allie Grace Ewing, all of Tifton; two great-grandchildren: Weston Tucker and Grace Tucker, of Ocilla and a sister, Linda Gail Lewis & Wayne of Fitzgerald. Special recognition is given to his special friend Joann White of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Charlotte Morris Ewing; great-granddaughter, Selah Grace Spell and a brother, Robitzsch Ewing.
