Obituary

Gus William Cota, 43, died unexpectedly at his Tewksbury home on
Thursday, March 5, 2020.
He was born in Lowell on August 14, 1976 and raised in Tewksbury by
his mother, Marie E. Whelan, and his father, Joseph. A. Cota. He
attended Tewksbury Public Schools and Middlesex Community College.
In his youth, he showed great athletic ability in playing baseball and
soccer, and in pursuing fitness as a discipline. Later, he discovered
his talent as a musician, dedicating himself to playing guitar and
keyboard and to singing. More recently, he became involved in new
media production projects and created his own works, combining video
and music technologies. He proudly broadened his horizons by traveling
to locations on both coasts of the United States.
Growing up, he was a good-hearted son and he was protective and caring
of his siblings. He generously shared with them - and all who he met -
his imagination, enthusiasm and sense of humor. He was always
thoughtful, sensitive to those vulnerable among us - both humans and
animals, alike. With an open mind, he sensed fundamental truths and
was always ready to teach others about the layer of meaning in the
world that lies beyond what most of us perceive. He revealed a
powerful and beneficent light that glowed behind his eyes. He had a
love of life that beamed from his wide and welcoming smile. He will
always be remembered for his big, gregarious laughter.
He was predeceased by his devoted mother Marie, his beloved cat
DeeDee, and his loving grandparents.
He leaves behind his father Joseph, his brother Christopher J. Cota
and his fiancee Erin M. Casey, his sister Katherine C. Cota MacDonald
and her husband Stephen M. MacDonald, along with his aunts, uncles,
cousins and niece.
Burial will take place in Tewksbury Cemetery following a simple
graveside ceremony on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 1 pm. In lieu of
flowers, memorials to the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL), c/o
Development, 10 Chandler Street, Boston, MA 02116, or
