Obituary

Lawrence Cortland Lawson, Jr. passed away February 29, 2020 at VA Hospital in Indianapolis from an extended illness.
He was born February 16, 1948, in Harriman, Tennessee, the son of Lawrence and Gladys (Slaven) Lawson, Sr. He grew up in Park Place, moving to Pendleton in 1973. Lawrence was loved by everyone who met him. Lawrence loved drag racing and target shooting. He was a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America, Indiana Chapter. He worked as a laborer for various businesses.
He served in the U. S. Army during Viet Nam and was wounded in 1967.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Brenda (Sparks) Lawson on October 24, 1968.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Brenda Lawson of Pendleton; sisters: Evaline "Eve" (husband Charles "Sonny") Earhart; Linda (husband Sam) Watson; brother, Larry Eugene (wife Debbie) Lawson; sisters-in-law: JoAnn (Sparks) Gates; Jane Sparks; Barbra (Gibson) Lawson; lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Dale Sparks; five nieces and four nephews; special friends, Steve and Eddie Branum; Bill Laswell, Jim Blake, Mike Retherford, Jesse Wilson and Shawn Finley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lonnie Ray Lawson; special aunts, uncles and two nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Hervey Lawrence of Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery with graveside rites by American Legion.
Visitation will be held Thursday, from 12 noon until the service.
