Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY ~ Irene A. (Poli) Roy, 87, formerly of Granby Road in South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Monday, February 24, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on October 5, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Landry) Poli. She was raised on Hadley Street in South Hadley, graduated from South Hadley High School and had later lived on Mosier Street in South Hadley before moving to Granby Road. She was a communicant of Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her beloved family. During her leisure time, she enjoyed playing the piano and accordion and often volunteered her talents at many local events including the South Hadley Senior Center. One of her greatest joys was taking care of her beloved grandchildren. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerard J. Roy who was Called Home on June 26, 2003. She leaves her five loving children, Bryan G. Roy and his wife, Sharon, of Sutton, MA, Gerard J. “Gerry” Roy and his wife, Mary, of Chicopee, John C. Roy of South Hadley, Ann Marie Germano and her husband, Frank, of South Windsor, CT and James J. Roy and his partner, Christa Sever, of Granby; her nine cherished grandchildren, Christina Colarusso, Mathew Roy, Michael Roy and his wife, Deandra, Nicholas Roy, John Roy, Steven Roy and his companion, Brittany Lee who cared for Irene often, Francesca Germano, Adam Roy and Coleton Roy; her cherished great-grandson, Grayson; her two dear brothers, Billy Poli and his wife, Donna, of South Hadley, Frank Poli of Easthampton, her dear sister, Rosemary Chicorka of South Hadley; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Roy and Poli families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Robert Poli. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church, 9 East Parkview Drive, South Hadley, MA 01075.
