Obituary

Cheryl Louise Wilson (74) of Lincoln, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18th after a 13-year battle with cancer. She was born in the fall of 1945 to Gladys and Frederick Ortstein of Andover Massachusetts.

After a family move from Andover, Cheryl grew up in Essex Junction Vermont as the only child living with her parents over the family business – Fred's IGA Market. She could run the register and adding machine at a very young age and was known by many in the area.

After graduating from secondary school at the Northfield School in 1963, Cheryl continued her education at McGill University in Montreal achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in 1967. Shortly after graduation, Cheryl moved to Boston where she took an early position in retail and later moved into the computer industry. Her early career specialties included computer programming and later, technical manual writing in that same industry. She was articulate and logical of mind.

Cheryl married Donald H. Wilson in 1971. When dating, Don often flew Cheryl to various destinations as he qualified for various aircraft qualifications. This was the start of a long venture in aviation for both. Eventually Cheryl also became a licensed pilot, and over the years they enjoyed travel and recreation in a long list of single and twin engine aircraft which they owned including a Lake Amphibian that they enjoyed for many seasons. She loved classical music, antiques, cooking, a good Manhattan, close friends and her beautiful second home in Norway Maine.

Cheryl will be remembered to those who knew her for her quick wit, dry sense of humor and abundant laughter. She was an absolute character to know and remember. She will be missed.

She leaves behind 3 close cousins, their families and many friends.

In the summer of 2020, there will be a gathering of close friends and family at the West Parish Cemetery in Andover where she will be remembered and will join her late husband Don, her parents and other family members at the family gravesite.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 330 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215 or Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.

Please feel free to add your memories to this site in Cheryl’s honor.
