TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Edna M. (Drinkwater) Piantaggini, age 87, died peacefully on Friday, February 14, at Lowell General Hospital, after a brief illness. She had been a member of Rivercourt Residences in Groton for the last year. She was the beloved wife for 67 years, of Daniel Robert Piantaggini Sr., who died on April 28, 2019.
She was born in Boston, one of six children of the late John and Elma “Daisy” (Corney) Drinkwater, and raised in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
Fourteen years after her Korean War wartime marriage to “Danny,” she moved to Tewksbury, and settled on South Street in the Summer of 1966 to raise their three sons.
She and Danny were known for their talent, grace and skill enjoying Ballroom Dancing. In true adopted Italian family tradition, she became a masterful cook, and in the years following she perfected her authentic tomato sauce, sausages and meatballs, unmatched in flavor and always a favorite with her family.
She will be remembered for her contagious smile and keen sense of humor.
She leaves three sons, Daniel Piantaggini and his wife Kathy (Murch) of Pepperell, Donald Piantaggini and his wife Susan (Gianetta) of Pepperell, and David Piantaggini and his wife Sandra (Petullo) of Hudson, NH; six grandchildren, Andrea Piantaggini of Fitchburg, Amy Piantaggini of CT, Lance Piantaggini and his wife Christa of Northampton, MA, Laurie Piantaggini and her fiancée Jordan Aguirre of Lynn, MA, Jeffrey Piantaggini and Tara Piantaggini both of Hudson, NH; three great grandchildren, Danielle, Dean, and Cade; a sister, Joan Desjardins and her husband George of Haverhill; sisters-in-law, Rachele Hadley of Methuen, and Angie Piantigini of Lawrence; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her siblings, John “Jack” Drinkwater, Jean Williams, Barbara Botting, and Edith Foote.
