Obituary


John ‘Steven’ Crowell, 70, of Provincetown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 5th at home, surrounded by his loving and devoted partner of 20 years, Marlene Sawyer, and her two daughters Laura Parker and Shannon Patrick.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. While serving in the Vietnam War as a member of the Special Forces, Steven specializing in radio communications. Among many decorations, medals, badges commendations, Steven was awarded the Bronze Star. He finished his military career with the Army Reserve.

After the service, Steven worked as an electrician in the Plymouth area for many years. Upon retirement, he moved full-time to the lower Cape.

Steven was a lover of the great outdoors. He enjoyed walks, bicycle rides along the Cape Cod Canal, and fishing. His greatest passion in life however was dancing: ballroom, swing and 2-stepping. He was also a member of St. Peter the Apostle parish.

In addition to his partner Marlene, he is survived by his daughter Kimberly Crowell of Buzzards Bay, sisters Sandra and Dawn, and brothers George and Philip. He was predeceased by his parents John and Frances Crowell along with two sisters, Patsy and Diane.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown on Thursday, February 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 14th at 10:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
