Elena (Memmolo) Cavagnaro, a long-time Somerville resident, died Friday at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 95.
Born and raised in Boston’s North End she was the daughter of the late Nicolo and the late Rosalina (Capolla) Memmolo. A dedicated wife and mother, Elena joined the work force once her children were raised, working at Schraffts Candies and in the garment industry making neckties.
She was the wife of the late Francis Cavagnaro. She was a loving mother to Janet Laham and her husband Ronald of Arlington, Francis Cavagnaro and his wife Ruth Ann of Stoughton. She was a devoted grandmother to 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was a dear sister to Caroline Morreo of the North End, the late Gennaro Cavagnaro, Anna Viola, Pasqualina Bono, Antoinette Memmolo and Michelina Biagioni. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Eulalia Church, Winchester at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 thru 8.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to the National Shrine of St. Jude, 205 West Monroe , Chicago, IL 60606.
