Obituary

Albino "Bino" Gomes, 92, of New Bedford died February 4, 2020 peacefully at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.
He was the husband of Joan Mary (Ward) Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Antone and Palmira (Miguel) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Bino was formerly employed as a firefighter with the New Bedford Fire Department for 31 years until his retirement.
He served as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy "Sea Bees" Battalion during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Susan E. Simon and her husband Eric of Fairhaven; 2 grandsons, Aaron J. Gomes and Mathew M. Gomes; a granddaughter, Hailey E. Simon; a step-grandson, Eric C. Simon; a step-granddaughter, Taylor J. Smith; a great-granddaughter, Julianna Gomes; a step-great-granddaughter, Peyton Parks; 2 great-grandsons, Garret Gomes and Eli Gomes; a brother-in-law, James Ward; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Gomes and Delores Gomes; 2 nieces, Susan I. Plaud and her husband Gene and Nancy Schloss; and 3 nephews, James Ward, Michael Gomes and Scott Gomes.
He was the father of the late Gary Gomes, father-in-law of the late Michelle Gomes, brother of the late Antone Gomes and Walter Gomes, and uncle of the late Curtis Gomes.
His visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 9th from 3-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 10th at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford. The family requests that the public meet directly at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 136 Rivet St., New Bedford, MA 02744.
