Obituary

John W. Nicotera, 90, of Franklin died January 29th in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury following a brief illness. He was the husband of Edith (DeFranza) Nicotera for the past 68 years.

Born in Boston, March 3, 1929, the son of the late John B. and Mary (Mullyan) Nicotera, Mr. Nicotera was raised in Roslindale and had lived in Hyde Park for many years before moving to Franklin.

John had been a heavy equipment operator and union steward for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4 for many years before retiring.

He had previously owned his own construction company for several years.

John enjoyed playing cards , watching the local sports teams and was a lover of animals. He took great enjoyment being with his grandchildren.

He served in the Navy during from 1946-1948 attaining the rank of Seaman Second Class and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, John R. Nicotera of Hyde Park, Marie Lombardo of Norwell, Robert J. Nicotera and his wife Deborah of Medford, Lisa Nicotera of Franklin and Lawrence Nicotera and his wife Lynn of Medfield.

He is also survived by his siblings, Theresa Beliveau of Nevada, Larraine Kaplan of Quincy, and Anthony Nicotera of Boston.

He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Christoforo, Mary Sarno, Nora Verrochi, Ann Filon, Rose Schulze, Domenic Nicotera and Frank Nicotera.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa, Alicia, Francesca, Sal, Gerard, Robert, Leigha, Anthony, Jessica and Katelyn and his great-grandchildren. John, Jackson, Joseph and William.

His funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 3 in St. Mary’s Church at 11:00 am.

Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:45 p.m.

Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00-10:45 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
