Obituary

Leonard C. Hebert, 50, of New Bedford died September 13, 2005 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of the late Jessie (Staley) Hebert.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Marcel and Gladys (St. Don) Hebert, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.

Mr. Hebert was a First Class Boiler Technician in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1994 after 20 years of active duty. His duty tours included service in Vietnam, Lebanon, Liberia, and Operation Desert Storm.

He was a life member of the American Legion, a Past Commander of Post 60 in Norfolk , Virginia, and a Past Adjutant of Post 265 in Acushnet, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fleet Reserve Association.

Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Hebert of Porter, TX and Mark A. Pereira of Norfolk, VA; four stepchildren, Marc Hunt, Curtis Hunt, Shannon Hunt, and Brandilee Hunt, all of New Bedford; a brother, Andre L. Hebert of Norfolk, VA; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was the father of the late Richard N. Hebert and brother of the late Paul W. Hebert.


His Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday Feb. 3, 2006 in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
