Andre G. Poirier, 91, of New Bedford passed away Monday January 20, 2020 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of the late Alice (Gomes) Poirier.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Thomas and Exilda (Melanson) Poirier, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Poirier was formerly employed as an appliance engineer for American Dryer Company.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid gardener and computer enthusiast. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, and going to the flea market on Sundays.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon L. Varni and Rhonda M. Machado; two sisters, Ida Fontaine and Jean Coelho; two grandchildren, Angela Cabral and her husband George, and Keith Varni; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Cabral, Eric Cabral, and Ashley Cabral; a great-great-grandson, Brayden Cabral; and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 25, 2020 at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
