Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Jean (Yammine) Brunelle Higgins, 86, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on December 26, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late Sarkis and Adele Yammine. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Saint Anthony Women’s Guild. She was a wonderful woman who loved her church, adored her family and many friends and enjoyed her many trips to Lebanon. She leaves her beloved husband of 40 years, Edward Higgins. She also leaves her four loving children, Adele M. Brunelle McCarthy and Richard A. Brunelle, Jr., both of Agawam, Michael J. Brunelle and his wife, Judy, of Feeding Hills and Patricia Higgins of Boston; her six cherished grandchildren, Shawn McCarthy and his wife, Sera, Kevin McCarthy and his wife, Jennifer, Daniel McCarthy and his wife, Therese, Jessica McCannon, Michael Brunelle, Jr. and his wife, Rafaela, and Stephanie Denault and her husband, Patrick; her 13 cherished great-grandchildren, John and James McCarthy, Matthew and Thomas McCarthy, Grace, Caroline and Patrick McCarthy, Traigh, Will and Ben McCannon, Sofia and Olivia Brunelle, and Charlie Rose Denault; her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends in the United States and Lebanon; and her extended members of the Higgins, Brunelle and Yammine families. Jean will be watching from the Eternal City of Heaven this coming Saint Patrick’s Day the birth of her fourteenth cherished great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear daughter-in-law, Catalina Brunelle; her four dear siblings, Katherine, Lillian, Joseph and Mary Yamin; and her beloved aunt whom she dearly loved, Lillian Yamin Saliba. Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 26, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118 or to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
