Obituary

“USSgt. Matthew P. "Matt" Putney, U.S. Army Retired, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly of Dedham, entered into eternal life suddenly on Thursday January 2, 2020 while visiting in Georgia.. He was 56 years of age.

Matt was born on January 29, 1963, a son of the late Joseph F. Putney and Marguerite E. (Gibbons) Putney. He grew up in Dedham where he was educated and graduated from Dedham High School in 1980. Matt enlisted into the United States Army on September 6, 1980 and served his country with honor and courage while being deployed to Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his courageous dedication overseas for his country. He was honorably discharged in 2008 with the rank of Sergeant following 28 years of dedicated military service to his country the United States of America.

Matt is the son of the late retired Dedham Firefighter Joseph F. Putney and the late Marguerite E. (Gibbons) Putney of Dedham. He is the beloved husband of Jean (Davis) Putney. He is the devoted father of Amanda Dean and her husband Jamin of Calhoun, Georgia and Adam Putney of Pittsburg Pennsylvania. He is the loving grandfather of Bennett Dean of Calhoun, Georgia. He is the beloved brother of Kevin Putney and and his wife Joan (Vincola) of Dudley, Mass., Gerard Putney and his wife Mary (Rubino) of Kingston, Mass. and Maura (Putney) Driscoll and her husband John of Reading, Mass. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Matt's Memorial Mass On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11 A.M. in
St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 420 High St., Dedham, Mass. 02026

Matt was buried with full military honors in the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Georgia.
