Obituary

Jacob W. "Jake" Fidler a 23 year resident of Billerica, and former long time resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday February 1, 2006 at Woodbriar of Wilmington following a long illness. He was 87 years old.

Jake was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools, and graduated from Boston Trade High School in 1936. He worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown for over 30 years as a machinist and a planner, planning everyday functions within the shipyard. Following his retirement of the shipyard after its closing in 1974, he began working at the Charlestown Boys Club where he had belonged for most of his life as a maintenance worker. He was employeed at the Boys Club for about 10 years.

Jake is the beloved husband of the late Anna F. (Evers) who recently passed away in April of 2005. He is the devoted father of Dru McCaughey and her husband Charles of Billerica and Wendell Fidler and his wife Mary of Kingston. Loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Brother of Russell Fidler of Billerica and the late Arthur Fidler, Drusilla Thompson and Alan "Suitcase" Fidler. Also several nieces and nephews.

Jake's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday morning February 4, 2006 at 9:30 am. in the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Friday February 3, 2006 from 5 to 8 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
