Velma Jane Wooten Cargle, 88, of Tifton passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Emory Midtown in Atlanta. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Josh Bennett and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Cargle will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Cargle’s grandsons, Barry Sanders, Corey Cargle, Adam Cargle, Ross Cargle. Blake Walker and Josh Clements will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Cargle’s great-grandchildren, Jackson Sanders, Nathan Sanders, Madeline Sanders, Emma Cargle, Ella Cargle, Madison Cargle, Logan Cargle, Asa Cargle, Audra Claire Cargle, Ri Clements and Erik Clements.
Born April 15, 1931 in Trion, Mrs. Cargle was the daughter of the late Ross Wooten and Leeanna Pettyjohn Wooten. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James Harold Cargle; one brother, Faye Wooten; and one sister, Doris Stowe. Before retiring, she was a day-care worker and she was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cargle is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jimmy and Beth Cargle of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Robert Walker of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Archie Brown of Lithonia; six grandchildren and their spouses, Casey and Barry Sanders, Corey and Jenn Cargle, Adam and Lacy Cargle, Ross and Chelsey Cargle, Beverly and Josh Clements and Blake Walker; and eleven great-grandchildren, Jackson Sanders, Nathan Sanders, Madeline Sanders, Emma Cargle, Ella Cargle, Madison Cargle, Logan Cargle, Asa Cargle, Audra Claire Cargle, Ri Clements and Erik Clements.
