Fay C. (Costa) DiPiro, 86, of Fairhaven, died January 31, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Alexander DiPiro.
Born in Fabrezio, Italy, the daughter of the late Frank and Raphaela (Costa) Costa, she came to the United States when she was 12 years old and lived in Fairhaven for most of her life.
Mrs. DiPiro was the founder and owner of Fay's Knotty Pine Restaurant at Lund's Corner in New Bedford for over 40 years. The family's second restaurant, Fay's, in South Dartmouth was named in her honor.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn F. Bettencourt of South Dartmouth; two brothers, James Costa, and his wife Ingrid, of Unity, NH, and Michael Costa, and his wife Gale, of Mattapoisett; two sisters, Rosa Stapleton of New Bedford and Maria Cleghorn, and her husband Norman, of Seffner, Fla.; two grandchildren, Matthew Bettencourt and Elizabeth Ann Olimpio, and her husband Julio, all of Dartmouth; two great-grandchildren, Julia Fay Olimpio and Taylor Rose Olimpio; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Saturday, February 4, 2006, at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 3-7 PM.
