Obituary

Angelina (Pina) Costa, 93, of New Bedford passed away Sunday January 12, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late James Pina and Constance (Alves) Pires, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mrs. Costa was formerly employed as a paralegal for Southcoast Legal Services for 45 years. It was a career she truly enjoyed, assisting her many clients through various complex legal matters.

An accomplished seamstress, she produced the first uniforms for the Verdean Vets Drum and Bugle Corps. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, going for rides in the car, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her four children, Marlene L. Barros of New Bedford, Bruce J. Costa and his wife Nadine of California, Diane M. Hodge and her husband George of Dartmouth, and Debra M. Costa of New Bedford; her brother, Joel Pires of Boston; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

She was the mother of late Charles W. Costa, mother-in-law of the late Frank Barros, and sister of the late Madeline Cruz, Muriel Pina, Antone Pina, James Pina, Hector Pina, and Herman Pina.

Her Funeral will be held on Friday Jan. 17, 2020 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday Jan. 16, 2020 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association.
