Obituary



Gérard Edouard, of West Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 5th, 2020 while in the care of Beth Israel Hospital at the age of 90.

Gérard Edouard was born in Jacmel, Haiti to DuPont Hilaire and Justine Edouard on December 28th, 1929. Gérard was raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he attended primary and secondary schools. Gérard relocated to the United States in 1965.

Gérard had a long working career starting in Haiti and concluding in Medford working at Tufts University. Gérard was a hard worker, many times held 2 jobs to provide for his family, and Gérard was the first to lend a hand to friends and family in need. When Gérard was not working, he enjoyed cooking, entertaining, listening to Haitian music, watching the local news on Channel 2, and playing dominoes- one of his many passions.

Gérard will fondly be remembered for his strict Caribbean values, his outgoing and dynamic personality, and lastly his great cooking hospitality and never-ending entertainment events. Gérard will be greatly missed.

Gérard is preceded in death by his Father DuPont, Mother Justine, Sisters Duvie, Elvire, Irma and Martha, and Brothers Andre, Duc, and Luc.

Gérard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Noelzina “Tina” Edouard, his seven children: Christine Edouard, Jacques (Juanita) Edouard, Jean “Bob” (Marie Claude) Edouard, Patrick (Michelle) Edouard, Mary “Dougie” Edouard, Marice (Rodney) Vincent, and Joanne (Jocelin) Delva; his brothers: Gereste Hilaire, Reverend Joseph Hilaire, and Jean Hilaire; his sister Simone St. Felix; his grandchildren: Jacques (J’Mai) Edouard Jr., Junelle, Jacquette (Harold) Walton Jr., Cheyenne, Jordan, Jasmine, Kiarra, Jarod, Janeria, Elidja, Isaiah, Grace, and Eliana; his great-grandchildren: Jayquan, Jeneva, JaJanay, Ja’Rene, Joel, Harold III “Tre”, Jonah, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, family, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held at Dello Russo Funeral Home, located at 306 Main Street, Medford, MA. Visitation will be on Friday January 17th from 4 to 9pm and Saturday January 18th at 10 AM with procession to a funeral mass to be celebrated in St. Raphael Parish, located at 512 High Street, Medford at 11 AM.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, located at 230 Playstead Road, Medford, MA.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Gérard's memory to Sancta Maria Nursing Facility, 799 Concord Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138.
