JD “Buddy” Peters, 88, of Ochlocknee passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Raymond Dean officiating. Mr. Peters will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Ivey Peters, Phillip McLaughlin Sr., David Runkles and Chris Mercer will serve as pallbearers.
Born December 6, 1931 in Tifton, Mr. Peters was the son of the late I. D. Peters and Mollie Miley Peters. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Phillips Peters, who passed away in 2019, to whom he was married for 64 years; and two sisters, Evelyn Peters Dixon and Ruth Peters Dean. Before retiring, he was a security guard at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was also a member. He was a hard-working, “family man” and dearly loved his family. He loved his dog “Cooper” and enjoyed fishing and watching Westerns. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War.
Mr. Peters is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ivey and Debbie Peters of Ochlocknee; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Philip McLaughlin, Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida; his grandchildren and their spouses, Philip McLaughlin, Jr., Tina and David Runkles, Jessica Peters and Kayla and Chris Mercer; and four great-grandchildren, Laila Runkles, Paisley Runkles, Collin Mercer and Elaina Mercer.
