LOWELL—Hazel A. Dana, R.N., a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Monday evening, January 30th, at the Courville Center, in Nashua, NH.
She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late Lewis and Ada (Campbell) Dana, and was educated in the Lowell Public School System. She was a graduate of the Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Calvin Coolidge College of Liberal Arts, in Boston.
Miss Dana served in the United States Army during World War II, in the Army Nurse Corps in the South Pacific. She was the Chief Nurse of the Operating Room on Iwo Jima. After her discharge, she was employed at Lowell General Hospital for many years in the Out-Patient Department and the Operating Rooms. In her later years she did Occupational Nursing at the Abbott Worsted Company, Merrimack Manufacturing and Symphonic Electronic Corp. She was the past president of the Middlesex Women’s Club, the Beacon Light Class, and a member of the church choir for many years at the Matthews Memorial Church.
She is survived by several cousins, among them: Dorothy (Britton) Webster, of Nashua, NH.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 PM Thursday, February 2nd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her funeral service to be held Friday, February 3rd, at 11 AM at the MATHEWS MEMORIAL CHURCH, Chelmsford. Burial in the Edson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Building Fund of Matthews Memorial Church; 128 Gorham Street, East Chelmsford, MA 01824.
