Arthur Lewis Vaz, Jr., 67, of New Bedford died Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long battle with health complications. He was the husband of Flavio V. de Avila.
Born in Taunton, son of the late Arthur Lewis and Emily (Perry) Vaz, he lived in Dighton for most of his life before moving to New Bedford.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Arthur enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his dogs.
He is survived by his husband, Flavio; his sister, Patricia Cronin and her husband Dean; his nephew, Shawn Cronin and his wife Laura; his niece, Erin Cronin; his great-niece, Hannah Cronin; his great-nephew, Matthew Cronin; his sister-in-law, Denise Avila and her son Diego; his four dogs, Romeo, Juliet, Bubba, and Juro; and many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Vaz.
Arthur's family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at St. Luke's Hospital for the care and compassion shown to him during his time there.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 2-5 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will be private.
