Obituary

Age 75 of St. Paul.
Passed away January 2, 2020 after a long illness.
Poul was born on Gruegård farm in Vejen, Denmark on March 31, 1944. While on the farm, he enjoyed selling Gordon Setter puppies and playing in Kongeåen (King’s Creek) with his siblings. Poul had many chores on the farm that included helping with the beet and potato harvest and milking the goats and cows. The beet and potato fields were cleaned and chopped by hand. Poul was in the Danish Army and primarily stationed on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Poul immigrated to United States on June 30, 1965. He started working at the Andersen Honey farm with distant cousin Iver Andersen for 3 months. Poul then moved to Saint Paul and worked as a machinist and owned apartments around Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. He was also owner of Shannon’s Precision Machining and Rice Plaza Cleaners in Fridley. In retirement, Poul liked to watch airplanes at the airport, road trips, horse racing, watching Wheel of Fortune, going out for lunch with Helene, and spending time with his family. We will always remember his teasing, humor, and sarcastic attitude. Preceded in death by parents Meta and Johan Peter Sorensen. Survived by daughter Shannon Moran Sorensen of Monticello; son John (Colleen) Sorensen of Lake Elmo; Grandchildren Martin, Evelyn and Patrick; Siblings Kirsten Sorensen, Ruth Kjærgård Larsen (Gunnar), Anna Marie Pedersen, and Johannes (Inger) Sorensen of Denmark; many nieces and nephews of Denmark; friend of 54 years Helene Reed of White Bear Lake. Special thank you to Helene Reed for being a great friend to Poul.
