Obituary

MULVEY, Mary Louise (Hehir), 88, formerly of Falmouth, Sanibel Island, and Needham, died peacefully on December 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Philip F Mulvey, Jr., her son Philip F Mulvey, III of Milton and her sisters Elizabeth Ann Hehir and Ruth Ellen Hehir of Worcester. She is survived by her brother Henry Hehir & wife Carol of Rehoboth Beach DE, her sons Brian & his wife Jinda of Norwell, Kevin & his wife Amy of Falmouth and Sean & his wife Debbie of Franklin, as well as by her daughter-in-law Therese Mulvey, and her niece Elizabeth Hehir and nephew John Hehir, both of Baltimore. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mary Lou was born in Worcester to Henry Hehir and Ruth (Kearney) where she attended Ascension High School and Emmanuel College (class of 1952). As a newlywed in 1955 she moved to Buffalo NY where she learned to put snow chains on her VW to get across the snow-covered roads to teach. In the mid 1960’s they settled in Needham MA where she raised her 4 boys, which later in life she referred to as her main career. She did return to teaching and obtained her MS in Education from Emmanuel College. She was an active Mitchell Elementary PTO member and a board member at St Sebastian School. She cherished the life-long friendships she established in Needham, on the Cape, and in Sanibel while raising her family, playing cards, tennis and golf.

Her family thanks the staff at Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth for the kindness and care they showed Mary Lou during the past 2 years.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Dec. 29th from 3:00-5:00 PM at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, Needham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 30th at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Church, 1382 Highland Avenue, Needham. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham.
