Obituary

Eleanor T. "Elly" (Ridings) Murphy, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 90 years of age.

Elly was born in Boston on February 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Alfred Ridings and Elizabeth (Malanfy) Ridings. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Elly worked as a Clerk for the former Boston Filter Company in Charlestown for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, attending Boston Bruins games and watching the Patriots and Red Sox. Elly was devoted to her family which was very important in her life and she enjoyed taking care of her husband and son but her greatest enjoyment in her life were her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Elly is the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Murphy. She is the devoted mother of Michael J. Murphy and his wife AnneMarie. She is the loving Nana to Jason Scales and his wife Katie, Jillian Hess and her husband Will, Joseph Murphy and her great-grandchildren Jason, Lauren, Megan, Henry and Liam. She is the beloved sister of Geraldine Ridings, retired Boston Firefighter Ronald Ridings and the late Mary Guittarr, Dorothy Spinney, Alfred Ridings, Joseph Ridings, Robert Ridings, John Ridings and Richard Ridings. She is the sister-in-law of Elaine Ridings and Mary Ridings. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Elly's Funeral on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
