James Franklin Dunlap, Sr., 81, of 214 Fulwood Boulevard in Tifton, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Tifton. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Dale Pflug, Robert F. Hammond, Phillip Perlis, Billy R. Wiseman, Michael S. Lee, Sr. and Larry Hendricks will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Emory McMillan, Sara Doss, Edwin and Wylene Walker, Marvin and Lynette Perlis, Sonny Pflug, Mary Glynn Hendricks, Bob and Mary John Reinhardt, Gladys Wiseman, John and Ilene Young, Annette Hammond, Bill Johnson, Johnny Watson, Tommy Smallwood, Dr. Joe Turner. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 31, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson.
Mr. Dunlap was born on May 23, 1924 in Grady County, GA and was the son of James Robert (Jim Bob) Dunlap and Ocie Mae Palmer Dunlap, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers. He was a retired banker with C&S National Bank, where he worked for 37 years; and was a part-time employee for 8 years at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Dunlap was a World War II veteran, where he was wounded in the European Theatre and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. He had lived in Tift County since 1958.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Howard Dunlap of Tifton; 1 son, James Franklin (Jimmy) Dunlap, Jr. and his fiance, Angie Register, both of Tifton; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Reinhardt of Tifton; 2 sisters-in-law, Virginia Dunlap of Nashville, TN and LaNola Dunlap of Cairo; 1 brother-in-law, Ed Burnum of Cairo; 4 grandchildren, Ree Reinhardt, John Paul Reinhardt, both of Tifton and Ryan Dunlap and Grant Dunlap of Tallahassee, FL; Special friends, Ralph and Saralyn Wilson of Jackson, Joyce and Jerry Johnson of Tifton and Jean and Larry Varnadoe of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews.
