Obituary

John Marion “Johnny” Simmons, 77, of Lenox passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Carpenter Road Church of God with the Rev. Salone Green and the Rev. Phillip Simmons officiating. Mr. Simmons will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 11, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Road Church of God.

Steven Bennett, Derrick Glausier, Kal Simmons, Brian Simmons, Tyler Brock and J. C. McKinney will serve as pallbearers.

Born December 20, 1941 in Lenox, Mr. Simmons was the son of the late Lessie Simmons and Bertha Hall Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Georgeann Gray Simmons; one brother, Glenn Simmons; and one sister, Lillian Baker. Before retiring, he was the Manager for Turner’s Budget Furniture Company in Tifton. He was a faithful member of Faith Ministries Church in Nashville, where he taught the adult Sunday School class and played the organ. He was also a member of the Carpenter Road Church of God Young at Heart.

Johnny was known to many for his days of running Sapp’s Lake. He was the type of person who never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. Often called, John-John, he was a man of unwavering faith, who loved God and his family above all. He lived his life for his eternal reward, which he finally achieved.

Mr. Simmons is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lisa Simmons of Lenox, Phillip and Kim Simmons of Nashville and Jerry and Sherri Simmons of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Erron Smart of Lenox; one sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Melvin Tucker of Sparks; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Barbie Simmons, Alyssa and Cameron Smith, Kellie Philpot, Kal Simmons, Tyler and Margaret Anne Brock, Taylor Simmons, Avery Smart and Addison Smart; six great grandchildren; one nephew, Stacy Lumpkin; and special friends, Joe McNeese and Donnie Purvis.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Faith Ministries Church, 306 Beetree Avenue, Nashville, Ga 31639.
