Thomas L. Bernard, Jr., 72

Thomas L. Bernard, Jr, age 72, recently of Foxboro, a former thirty-five-year resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of P. Maureen (Larkin) Bernard, to whom he was wed for thirty-five years.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 23, 1947, he was a loving son of the late Thomas L., Sr. and Brigita (Picozzi) Bernard.

Tom grew up in Warwick, Rhode island and was a 1964 graduate of Warwick Veteran’s High School. During the Vietnam War, he proudly enlisted to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged.

Tom had a lifelong love and interest for video graphing and was the proud owner and operator of the Mansfield Multimedia Company. He previously had been employed at Codex, a division of Motorola in Mansfield and the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro.

Mr. Bernard was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where in the past had filmed many religious events. He was also a member and former president of the American Videographers Association.

Tom loved spending time with his adoring family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events. He loved being on the water and was a passionate fisherman and boater. Another favorite pastime of Tom’s was playing the guitar.

Through Tom’s affiliation with dance studios, he formed long lasting relationships by filming numerous recitals and productions for over thirty years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Jeffrey Bernard of Braintree, Carolyn Killian and her husband Scott of Braintree, Doreen Prendergast and her fiancé David Shield of Mansfield, J. Derek Prendergast and his partner John Daniels of Taunton, Jeannine Cook and her husband Joseph of Attleboro and the late Michael Prendergast and Michele Prendergast. He was the cherished grandfather of Daniel, Amy, Alex, Ben, Catherine, Olivia and Nora. He was the dear brother of the late Michael Bernard and Donna Bernard.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Monday, December 16th at 10:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
