Joseph Edward Dupre Jr., 87, a great man, husband, father and friend, died December 9, 2019 peacefully at home after a three week battle with cancer. Joe was predeceased by his wife Louise Ann (Peters) Dupre on February 5, 2018. He was the son of Joseph Edward Dupre Sr. and Ann Marie Dupre as well as his stepmother Genevieve Dupre and brother to Georgette Dupre Bonneau, the late Robert Gerard Dupre and the late Ernest ‘Pal’ Dupre. He is survived by his loving family - Elizabeth Reynolds and her husband Tom and their children Savannah, Lily and Thomas, Ann Dupre and her children Genevieve and Jessica and Ann’s husband Michael Robotham, Rosemary Dupre and her daughter Abigail and Rose’s significant other Doug Colwell, Louise Tibbals her husband Tim and their children Louise and Edward, Joseph Edward Dupre III and his wife Elisa and their children Joseph Edward Dupre IV, Amalia and Eden, Peter Dupre and his wife Elaine and their children Jacob and Annica, as well as many nieces and nephews on the Dupre and Peters side. Three weeks ago, Joe said, “I am such a lucky man. I have no regrets.” Joe was first and foremost a family man and a man of great faith. He was a devote parishioner of Our Lady of Purgatory Church and Sunday mass followed by breakfast and bloody marys was a loved tradition. He was the owner of Dupre, Inc. for over sixty years and was known as ‘Big Joe’ to the guys at the shop. He continued to go into the office every day until three weeks ago. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer, long time member of the Country Club of New Bedford, a graceful and talented skier and a boater, as well. He traveled extensively with his wife Louise to many exotic locations. Since his wife’s passing, he was embraced by his CCNB family who made him feel loved and supported. He was blessed by his thirteen grandchildren and loved spending time with them including up and until this past weekend. He will be greatly missed and we like to think that he is on the beach in Greece or St. Kitts with our mom.
His Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 13th at 10 AM in Our Lady of Purgatory Church. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
